Why?The main goal of the event is to stimulate the development of media activism and new media projects. What is MediaBarCamp?MediaBarCamp will be created as something between two big formats: famous and popular BarCamp and tactical media festival Next5Minutes. We will concentrated on media culture and media activism. Around 3-4 sessions will be held simultaneously during the event (including presentations, work groups, speeches, reports, discussions). There will be around 70 presentations during two days, in different languages (English, Belarusian, Lithuanian, Russian). Who?MediaBarCamp will be organized by Belarusian «Green» Party and Swedish International Liberal Centre (SILC), with visa support by Eastern Europe Studies Centre (EESC). BarCamp format was established in 2005 when the first event of such a kind took place in the Silicon Valley. Shortly after that, this format gained the popularity among the IT specialists in North America and Western Europe. BarCamp is called unconference to highlight its informal and unofficial atmosphere that is kept up during the open discussions. The rules of Barcamp promote the idea of participants' involvement in the organization and logistics process. Everyone can attend the unconference but if you want to be a participant you should make your input: present a project, hold a discussion, announce the changes in your blog, shoot and distribute the video from the unconference, help in organizing. The festival Next5Minutes explores a variety of forms and formats, from low-tech to high-tech, from seminars and debates to performances and urban activities, screenings, installations as well as sound projects and live media.
